Gandhamathana Parvatham(Ramar paadham) - A hillock situated 3 Km to the North of the temple is the highest point in the island. There is a two-storied Mandapam, where Rama' s feet (Paadham) is found as an imprint on a chakra. DhanushkodiDhanushkodi named after Rama's bow, is at the eastern end of the island at a distance of 8kms from Rameshwaram. The boulders around the sea between Srilanka and this place known as Adam's bridge are believed to be used by Hanuman to reach across Srilanka. Dhanushkodi was completely destroyed by the cyclones of 1964. Kothandarama Swamy temple is the only salvage of the cyclone. The Kothandarama Swamy temple has images of Lord Rama, his brother Lakshmana, his wife Sitha, Hanuman and a remorseful Vibhishana AgnitheerthamAt a stone throw away distance from the Ramanatha Swamy Temple is Agnitheertham. The sacredness of the place makes it a popular bathing spot for the pilgrims. A dip in the Agnitheertham is supposed to remove the sins of the pilgrims. Ideally, a bath at Agnitheertham precedes the visit to the Ramanatha Swamy Temple. Annai Indra Gandhi Bridge(Pamban Bridge) - The 2.2 Km Length Bridge connecting the Rameshwaram Island and the mainland is the longest bridge in India constructed over a bay. It is also called as Pamban Bridge. Similarly the Railway Bridge connecting the island is noted for its unique opening to pass the ships through the sea. DevipattinamDevipattinam - one can visit this place during a travel from Tanjore to Rameshwaram. It is 70 Km from Rameshwaram. A large number of devotees visit this ancient Thilakeshwar Temple, popularly known as Navagraha Temple at Devipattinam. Rama placed nine stones as symbols of Navagraha or nine planets, at Devipattinam. Those stones can still be seen partly submerged in the water close to the beach of the Thilakeshwar Temple or the Navagraha Temple.

Festivals in ThiruchendurSkanda Shashti, the sixth day of the waxing moon in the Tamil month Iypasi ( this yeas this festival celebrated on 31st October’11 ) The Thiruchendur Brahmotsavam of Masi during February-March each year wherein all the three temple cars are dragged and the festival is conducted for twelve days concluding with a Teppam or Float Festival is much esteemed Twice a year, once in Tamil month Maasi (February / March) and once in Aavani (August / September), the temple Bhramotsavams are held and they go on for 12 days. Courtallam :- It is famous for amazing Waterfalls & is situated at an elevation on 167 m on the Western Ghats in Tirunelveli district. The waterfalls of Courtallam has medicinal properties as they run through forests and herbs. Numerous rivers such as the Chittar River, the Manimuthar River, the Pachaiyar River and the Tamarabarani River originate here. The season in Courtallam (waterfalls) usually starts from the last week of June and ends at the 1st week of September. After that occasionally we can see water flow there. At Courtallam guest can stay at Hotel Saaral Resort, it is the best hotel available here. Distance from Madurai to Courtallam is 160Kms & 3.5 hours drive. |
