Karnataka Temples

The temples in Karnataka are not just religious places. They are the architectural wonders to be marvelled. The shrines dedicated to different Gods and Goddesses are simply the testimonies for the craftsmanship of the artisans from the yesteryears' dynasties. The temples which were built on the huge star shaped platforms by the Hoysalas and the Rock cut caves by the Badami Chalukyas are some of the finest examples of Karnataka's temple architectures. Out of the various temples located across the state, two of the temples’ complexes are listed as World Heritage sites by UNESCO. One is, Hampi, the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagara dynasty and the other one is Pattadakal, the classical architecture dating back to the period of Badami Chalukyas. These are the two monuments frequented by the global travellers very often.

Some of the popular temples across Karnataka which can be included in the "Must Be Visited" list are Vittala temple in Hampi, Virupaksha temple & Mallikarjuna temple in Pattadakal, Renganatha swamy temple in Srirengapatna, Kukke Subramanya temple near Mangalore, Murudeshwar Shiva temple and Kollur Mookambika temple. Besides these popular temples, you have hundreds of smaller shrines and worshipping centres for the other religions to choose from, making Karnataka the ideal place for a spiritual sojourn.
