Falling from a height of 147 ft, Kuntala water falls makes it the highest of all water falls in the South Indian state of Telangana. Especially during rainy season, the water falls splits into two streams which makes everyone think that there are two falls coming down.

The road leading you till the start of the waterfalls is well maintained for a hassle free ride and from there one has to trek down around 400 steps to reach the bottom of the falls.

Kuntala water falls has an interesting religious connect to Hinduism. Natives of this region strongly believe that Shakuntala and Dushyanta, the epic pair fell in love with the scenic surroundings of this region and there has been beliefs and stories retold that Shakuntala has taken bath in this falls several times, so is the falls called after her name.

Kuntala Falls receives its water resource from Kadem water Reservoir. Post monsoon seasons and monsoon seasons are ideal to visit falls, yet, utmost care is to be taken while trying to take bath in the falls, especially when the inflow of water is very high. As there is not much water between January and July, you can plan to visit between August and December to enjoy the beauty of Kuntala falls reaping unforgettable memories.

Airport nearest to Kuntala falls is at Hyderabad, at a distance of 300kms. Adilabad is the nearest railhead from where you can opt for rented cabs to reach the location. Kanakai, Gayathri and Pochera waterfalls are the other popular tourist locations nearby Kuntala falls.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the best time to visit this place. Visit for a pleasant and lovely ambiance but to drench in the richness of the waterfalls, July to September is the ideal time. Monsoon brings heavy rainfall and so Kunthala overflows for travelers to take part in water-related activities such as swimming. Adilabad is not preferred during the summer season as the weather is not conducive for day tours and sightseeing. Winters are somewhat extreme in Adilabad and so going with the right set of gears is important.

 By Air -  Hyderabad and Nagpur Airport (150 km away) is the nearest airport to Adilabad and it is 56.2 km away from Kuntala Waterfall. Taxis are available outside the airport for reaching the required destinations easily.
