Central India is home to bustling wildlife and the state of Madhya Pradesh houses four of the most famous wildlife sanctuaries in India. All four of these national parks offer chances to spot the fiery jungle residents, the tigers. Not just that, there are tribal settlements within the jungle as well who live in harmony with the wild animals for centuries. If you are into wildlife and planning a visit to India, I strongly recommend Madhya Pradesh. It is your single ticket to the wild in India.
Let me introduce you the above said four national parks in Madhya Pradesh to plan your next wildlife adventure-
Let us start off with the most popular among these “Famous Wild Five” in Madhya Pradesh, the Bandhavgarh National Park. It is widely regarded as the abode of tigers, owing to the fact that, there is a 90% chance you would spot a tiger while exploring the forest of Bandhavgarh. Also, it houses the largest population of the royal Bengal Tigers in the world. Bandhavgarh is divided into 4 zones, Maghdi, Panpatha, Tala and Khitauli. Chances are high you would spot tigers at the Tala and Maghdi zone, while Khitauli is famous for leopards and bears. At Panpatha zone, Dhole or the wild dogs are found in numbers.
Bandhavgarh would be interesting for travellers other than the wildlife enthusiasts as well. There is an ancient fort and caves within the Bandhavgarh forest area which as per historians is believed to have been gifted to Lord Lakshman by Lord Rama.
Kanha is yet another popular wildlife sanctuary in India for tiger sightings. Its Tall Sal forests and lush green meadows attract visitors from all across the globe. Kanha houses the nearly extinct Barasingha or swamp deer. Leopards and antelopes are found in large numbers at Kanha. Chances are high you would spot tigers while you explore Kanha during your jungle jeep safari.
Now, this one is interesting. Probably all of us have seen or heard of the Jungle Book. As per the author Rudyard Kipling, the thick jungle of Pench inspired him to write the book and frame its main characters Mowgli, Sher Khan and Baloo. The whole park is divided into two equal halves by the River Pench. Tigers, leopards, deer and various other wild animals are found in its vast expanse of teak forests.
Set amidst the Satpura Hills in Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, the Satpura National Park is a total entertainer for the wildlife buffs. You could get indulged in Jeep Safari, Elephant Safari, jungle trek and much more. Walk through the thick woods of the Satpura and get entertained by the wild. The Denwa River flows right through the Satpura national park and is a major source of irrigation within the reserve. Boating along the Denwa River is yet another exciting activity for the visitors.
