Situated on the road of Basavanagudi Bull temple, Dodda Ganapathi Temple is one of the most popular temples of the city and is widely known for its huge Statue of Lord Ganesha which is about 18 feet high and 16 feet wide. Also popularly known as Shakthi Ganapathi and Satya Ganapthi, the statue here at the temple is said to have grown to its present size on its own. This temple is also known for its Ganesha festival which attracts visitors from everywhere. During the festival which goes on for a week, the idol of Lord Ganesh is decorated in different ways. The most attracting one is Benne Alankara where the idol is smeared with a 100 kg of butter. Dry grapes and almonds are also fixed on the layer of the butter. A noteworthy aspect of this alankara (decoration) is that, despite the warmth inside the sanctum sanctorum, the butter does not melt.Visiting the temple at this time will really be a feast for your eyes where you get a glimpse of fervour during this festival.
