Discover Bowring's Attara Kacheri in Bangalore: A Blend of History and European Gothic Architecture

Another exquisite building worthy of a drive-by, located directly opposite the Vidhana Soudha, is the Attara Kacheri. Constructed during the reign of Tipu Sultan, the Emperor of Mysore, this building was created to house eighteen additional departments beyond those accommodated in the Palace. The construction, completed over four years and costing 4.5 lakh Rupees, was overseen by the British civil servant Lewin Bentham Bowring. His keen vision for the building led to the adoption of the European Classical Gothic architectural style. The building is also referred to as Bowring’s Attara Kacheri and remains a notable tourist attraction in Bangalore, although visitors are not permitted inside.
