Inmayil Nanmai Tharuvar Temple

Temple’s Peculiarity:

This age old temple is anchored in the heart of Madurai city; next to Meenakshi sundareswarar temple this temple is hailed. The lord here is created by the Lord Siva himself and a specialty in this temple is that; the main shrine faces the west.

Mythology:

Hundred decades ago the rule was framed that Meenakshi will rule the Madurai for 4 months and Shiva for 8 months, according to that Lord Siva came to throne after 4 months but before taking the empire he was advised to do Siva Pooja. Ergo Lord Shiva himself erected this Linga and did Siva Pooja to it naming the Linga as Abishta Vaadappadeswarar.

Specialty:

IT is a rare sight to see Lord facing west and posing in worshipping form, but the devotees of this temple are lucky to witness the both. The devotees are allowed to have a rear side Dharshan as Lord Siva and Meenakshi are performing Pooja to the lingam.

Festivals:

Being a shaivite temple all Siva festivals are celebrated in grandeur. Amidst them Maha Shivaratri, Pradosham and Brahmotsavam are notable
