Panchavati Anjaneya Temple
This famous Anjaneya temple is situated 12 km away from Pondicherry. This temple beams with the pride as it has the world's second largest Anjaneya effigy in the world.
This temple is mostly crowded during Saturdays; some of the important festivals celebrated here are Krishna Jayanthi, and Vaikunta Ekadasi.
Devotees offer Beetle garland, butter and clothes to Anjaneya. They also prepare vada garland for the Lord later they distribute it to the poor people.
Speciality of the Temple
The main deity in the sanctum is Lord Hanuman. The idol is a huge 36 feet high image of the Lord and is the tallest image of lord Hanuman in India. The idol is seen with five faces with the face of Lord Hanuman himself in the center and surrounded by Garuda, Narashima, Varaha and Hayagreeva. Devotees can offer Hanuman the Ulundu (Urad Dal) Vada (Medu Vada) also known as Hanuman Vada, Urad Dal is known for its cooling properties and is placed around the idol as a garland to reduce his Ugram and bless devotees.
The temple functions between 7.00 am to 11.00 am and between 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
Dress Code to visit the temple
No specific dress code is recommended for a visit to this temple. Still, costumes covering upper arms and legs are suggested as a mark of respect to the temple customs.
People suffering from incurable diseases and ceaseless struggles are advised to visit this temple for six consecutive Saturdays and chant the mantra of Jai Ram 108 times; they are also given a spiritual armlet.
