Enclosed by Nallamalai Hills on the southern side and the charming Krishna River on the eastern side, Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the picturesque sanctuaries in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The sight of milky white waters of the Krishna River that cuts through the small gulch on the Nallamalai Hills is simply captivating which adds to the beauty of the sanctuary. And hence a lot of photographers and nature lovers are attracted to this sanctuary.

Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Sanctuary was home to more than 80 tigers in the early seventies and therefore in 1983 it was declared as a 'Tiger Reserve'. Along with tigers, several wildlife creatures Indian Leopard, Bengal Fox, Jungle Cat, Striped Hyena, Sambar, Giant Squirrel, Indian Python, Mugger Crocodile, etc dwell in this sanctuary.

More than 150 species of birds including Grey-horn bill as well as pea foul also find their habitat at this beautiful Nagarjunasagar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is also known as Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Sanctuary.

Srisailam is a small town area dotted with many cave temples like Uma Maheswaram, Akka Mahadevi Bhilam, Dattathreya Bhilam, Kadalivanam, etc. It also houses the ancient temple of Lord Mallikarjun and his consort, Goddess Brahmaramba. So, the sanctuary not only welcomes nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts but pilgrims also.
