Situating within the boundary of East Godavari and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh, the Papikondalu National Park is a charming destination which has great significance in the mythological era.

As per myths, the area which is now occupied by the Papikondalu National Park was once known as Kishkinta, the kingdom of the apes, during the epic time of holy Ramayana. And it was the residents of this Kingdom who had helped Lord Rama to bring back his wife Sita from the wicked king Ravana of Lanka.

Papikondalu National Park is so picturesque with fresh and lush green vegetations, especially that of Eastern Ghats.

The Godavari River meandering through the Papi Hills with twists and turns is a visually pleasing sight that adds to the charm of the place.

This National Park is fully reserved for the enrichment of wildlife and biodiversity. Hence, it takes care of several varieties of animals as well as birds and a variety of plants and shrubs also grow here beautifying the park.

Bambusa Arundinacea, Dendrocalamus Strictus, Latifolia, Albizzia Amara, Albizzia Lebbeck, Tectona Grandis, etc are some of the plant species found here.

Tiger, Barking Deer, Four horned antelope, Spotted deer, Hyena, Sloth Bear, Wild Dog, Marsh Crocodile, etc are the animal species of the Papikondalu National Park.

Initially established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1978, the Papikondalu National Park was given the status of a national park in the year 2008.

Variety species of moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests form the majority vegetation cover of the Papikondalu National Park.

Papikondalu National Park situates in the River Godavari basin.

Major Attractions:

The Papikondalu Hills that resembles the partition women makes in their hair surrounds the Papikondalu National Park.

There is an Environmental Education Center as well as a museum at the Papikondalu National Park that attracts the tourists.

The Gandi Pochamma Temple situated on the banks of the River Godavari is a place worth visiting near the Park.

The hill reserve forest named Rekhapalle is another attraction here.
