Hawa Mahal - Monuments of Rajasthan

Hawa Mahal An architecturally elegant structure built with the right mixture of Indo-Islamic-Rajput styles is the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. Hawa Mahal was built by Sawai Pratap Singh to facilitate the royal women.

As it was a custom that Rajput Royal women will not appear in public places, Hawa Mahal was built with around 953 windows enabling the women to witness the processions or any other special occasions proceeding on the street.

The windows or the Jharokhas deserve a special mention here that all the windows are with intricately designed paintings and exclusive artworks, which never fades away from anyone’s memory.

Hawa Mahal is one of such tallest buildings in the world, standing without any foundation laid. It is a surprising fact to know about the engineering craftsmanship of the olden days. There is also a museum inside Hawa Mahal with exhibits of artistic paintings, armory used and other beautiful collections which will take you through the history.
