Baisakhi - festival of Kashmir

Vaishaki month and Nagbani temple are inseparable during Baisakhi festival celebrated in Jammu – Kashmir region like any other North – Indian state. Vaishaki is the name of the month in Vikram Calendar and its first day is celebrated as Baisakhi Festival.

It is otherwise known as Harvest Festival, thanking nature for a good yield.

The Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir celebrate Baisakhi commemorating the formation of Khalsa sect in 1699 by their tenth Guru Gobind Singhji. All Gurudwaras are flooded with devotees following Sikhism attending special prayers and sermons followed by the divine Prasads prepared in their common kitchens.

There are numerous fairs organized symbolizing the happiness of commencing a year giving hope for new heights and achievements. Highlight of all the events is the Punjabi Bhangra dance enjoyed by thousands of people assembling at prime locations.
