Chikmagalur, the land of coffee, is a perfect weekend getaway. A journey for four hours from Bangalore will take you to this scenic location nestled with coffee estates. The pleasant climate prevailing in this region is the major reason attracting crowd during summer. The surrounding hill peaks, falls and the coffee estates make you feel at heaven. Most importantly, if you prefer visiting Chikmagalur during December – January, you will enjoy witnessing the coffee estates covered with the coffee seeds in abundance, ready to be plucked and processed.

Located on the foothills of the Mullayangiri range, the city gets its sources of water from the Yagachi River before it gets united with the Kaveri River. The climate and the coffee are the two major attractions of this city.

You can plan to spend two days in Chikmagalur. Reach the destination and after relaxing for a while, start your exploration around Chikmagalur. Reach the top of the Mulliyangiri peak with a comparatively easier trek, and the view from the top of the mountain is something spectacular.

Khalahatti and Jhari Falls are the other two locations where you can spend some of your free time. If your lucky, you can witness the rainbow forming through the waterfalls at a very proximal distance.

Stroll through the coffee estates, where the beans are plucked for processing. If you are interested and avid lover of the beverage, you can witness the procedure of peeling off the beans, getting it dried in sun to get the moisture out, roasting and getting the beans packed in large quantities to be supplied to the big players of the market.

Mahatma Gandhi Park, Mulliyangiri, Kudremukh and Baba Budan Giri are some of the other interesting locations aroung Chikmagalur.
