Mattupetty is a scenic hill station which is situated at a distance of 13 Km from Munnar. This hill station is fondly known as the “cattle village” because of the Indo Swiss farm project or the Livestock project which was launched in this region in the year 1963.

Mattupetty hill station is also famed for its concrete gravity dam which was constructed in 1940 as a part of the Pallivasal Hydro-electric project. Mattupetty host a large number of unique bird species and the lush green tea plantations and forests in and around this hill station are ideal for trekking. This hill station also provides a breath-taking view of the surrounding valleys.

Best Time to Visit

Mattupetty Hill Station can be visited throughout the year and is known for its cool ambience. But August to May is considered as the best time to visit Mattupetty. Summer season is the ideal time to visit this hill station. During this season, the temperature ranges between 15 degree Celsius to 25 degree Celsius making it a perfect destination for those wanting to explore nature from close quarters.

Winters are very cold in Mattupetty with the average temperatures range between 5 degree Celsius to 10 degree Celsius. It is not recommended to visit Mattupetty during the monsoon season because you would not be able to go for boating on the lake during this season due to heavy rain.

 By Air - Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport to Mattupetty which is 123 Km away. Madurai International Airport is at a distance of 153 Km from Mattupetty. On arrival at the airport, one can hire a taxi to Mattupetty from Cochin and Madurai. State transport buses are also available from Cochin and Madurai to Mattupetty.
