Ranipuram is a well-known tourist destination situated in Kasaragod district of Kerala. It is placed 750 meters above the mean sea level. This hill station was known by the name Madathumala till 1970 and later named as Ranipuram. It lies adjacent to Kottencheri-Talakaveri mountain range and is located very close to the forest range of Bhagamandala. It serves as a protected area in the Western Ghats of Kasaragod as well as a well-known trekking spot.

Ranipuram is so beautiful that it is often compared with the beauty of the hill station Ooty and hence this hill station is fondly known as the 'Ooty of Kerala'.  The trekking route that passes through the untouched forest, varied vegetation, evergreen shola woods, monsoon forests and grasslands offers a unique experience. Ranipuram also offers a panoramic view of the hills around and wild elephants can be spotted in this region.

This hill station is very famous amongst the trekkers and nature lovers. Ranipuram National park is the major attraction of this place which offers a variety of flora and fauna. There are many tourist cottages on the hills that provide a comfortable stay at this hill station.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to reach Ranipuram is from October to March. This is the ideal season to go for trekking in Ranipuram. The temperature ranges between 22 degree Celsius to 45 degree Celsius during the summer season. And the temperature ranges between 12 degree Celsius to 33 degree Celsius during the winter season. The allurement and charm of Ranipuram can be enjoyed during these seasons. During the monsoon season, Ranipuram receives heavy rainfall which makes it an unfavorable season to visit this hill station.

 By Air - Mangalore International Airport is the nearest airport to Ranipuram which is at 125 Km away. From there, you can hire a private cab or taxi to reach Ranipuram.

 By Rail - Ranipuram does not have a railway station of its own. Kanhangad Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Ranipuram which is around 45 Km away. From there, you can hire a private cab or taxi to reach Ranipuram.

 By Road: State transport buses are available from Kasaragod to Ranipuram or you can hire a taxi to reach this hill station.
