This hill station is the perfect weekend getaway for Nature lovers and trekkers. Travelers always need an umbrella and raincoat while exploring the serene landscapes. Elevated at 950 meters, this quaint and artistic hill is entwined with the Western Ghats.

The aroma of Cinnamon, Cardamom, Coffee, and Tea embrace our breath for the whole day. Sakleshpur is fondly called as the "Poor Man’s Ooty."

The terra of this beautiful hill station is full of endemic and endangered animals. One of the diverse spots in the world. Flora and fauna of Sakleshpur contain King Cobra, Sambar Deer, Elephants, and Tigers. The bunch of Reddish-orange blossoms 'Ratha Pushpa' adds charm to Sakleshpur.

The broken Shivlingam found during the period of Hoysala’s rule between the 10th and 14th century earned the title Sakleshwara. The neighboring villages called it Sakleshpur while another story reveals a different name - “Sakala Aishwaryagallinda Kudida Pura”. The former became famous and the name Sakleshpur came into existence.

Manjarabad Fort: The star-shaped fort was built by Tipu Sultan. It is at a height of 3240 feet. With reasonable effort, one can climb to the top for the amazing view of the Western Ghats. A fort with beautiful Islamic-style architecture.

The Bisle Reserve Forest: Just under 70 km from Sakleshpur, a visit during the monsoon is a must for Nature Lovers and Birdwatchers. Bisle View Point offers an exquisite angle to view the enchantress, Western Ghats. Dodda Betta, Pushpagir, and Kumara Parvatha mountains enhance the character of this place.

Sakleshwara Temple: The splendor of Hoysala's architecture in this Lord Shiva Temple is a starting praying point for the devotees before the climb.

Agni Gudda Hill: The view of rice meadows from Agni Gudda Hill is a beautiful way to enjoy the trekking and camping experience. Just 10 km away from Sakleshpur, this luscious landscape is a must-visit.

Manjehalli Waterfalls: Just 8 km away from Sakleshpur, this 20 feet waterfalls is a must-visit during the monsoon season. A picnic spot for families and friends.

Hemavathi Backwaters: A relaxed setting for a mindful session with Nature. The semi-arid church and 12th century Brahma Temple with its intricate architecture is there for the divine seekers.

Temple of Halebid: Quench the thirst for mythology in this place known as the “Gateway to the Sea” built by Jakkanna Acharya. Numerous mythological sculptures adorn this temple complex.

Pandava Gudda: During the exile (“vanavasam”) of Pandavas, they had stayed for some time in this place. There is an old temple at a distance of 45 km. A place for enjoying the sunset.

Kukke Subramanya Temple: The temple is 600 years old and 74 km away from Sakleshpur. Ward off negativity visiting this place enclosed by thick trees, rivers, and viridescent landscapes.

Trekkers Attention!

The Green Route Trek: This 56 km trek starts from Sakleshpur and continues till Kukke Subramanya. Hundreds of bridges, 50 plus tunnels, and 25 plus waterfalls, and even homestays are available in this Nature Lover Trek.

Ombattu Gudda Trek: The assemblage of nine hills forms a trekkable mountain here at a height of 971 meters. Climb for the bird-eye view at the top.

Bisle Ghat Trek: Encounter a relaxed tiger or fiery King Cobra in this daredevil trekking experience. You need permission from the forest department before trekking these places.

Best Time To Visit:

November to April is the best time to visit Sakleshpur and the nearby places. The average temperature throughout the year ranges between 22-23 degrees Celsius. Rain lovers can travel to this territory from June to August. Summer has breezy weather and moderate weather best for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Summer is a good time for trekking next to post-monsoon and winter.

Way to Reach:

 By Air -  At a distance of 138 km Mangalore International Aiport is there. From there, one can hire cabs to reach the top of the hills.

 By Rail -  Just at a distance of 2 km, Sakleshpur Railway Station is present and the nearest one to the hill station.

 By Road -  Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, and Hassan are connected by the KSRTC bus service. The roadways are clean and comfortable to drive from Bangalore and Mysore at a distance of 221 km and 130 km respectively.
