Exploring the Government Museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery in Bangalore: A Cultural Treasure Trove

The Government Museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery (VAG) are located on Kasturba Road, adjacent to Cubbon Park, the Bangalore Museum, and the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum. The foundation of the Venkatappa Art Gallery was laid by then-Chief Minister S. Nijalingappa on November 24, 1967. Designed to preserve the works of K. Venkatappa and provide a space for artists across Karnataka, the gallery is often confused with the nearby Bangalore Museum, although they are distinct entities. Spanning two floors, the gallery houses over 600 paintings that date from 2000 BC to the medieval period.
