Dubare Elephant Camp

At a distance of 15 km from Kushalnagar and 29 km from Madikeri, the regal giants of Mysore roam inside the Dubare Elephant Camp. It is on the banks of the Cauvery River in the Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka.

Cauvery’s Dubare is a naturally formed islet. The state’s forest department has undertaken this Dubare Elephant Camp project along with the jungle resorts and lodges.

The naturalists pertaining to the Dubare Elephant Camp take intense care of the elephants. Once, the camp was a training ground for the elephants, before the procession of Mysore Dussehra.

Best Time to Visit:

September to March is the ideal time to enter this idyllic surrounding. The camp looks at its best after the monsoon rain. Monsoon here is a lot deceiving and so it is better to visit either during post-monsoon months or in the early summer. Summer temperatures can go up to 43 degrees Celcius. Winter could go as low as 15 degrees Celcius. August to September receives the most rainfall. Always remember, during summer, spotting animals and finding hotels is considerably easy. Avoid plastic as much as possible!
